Client After Care Instructions

The first 24 hours following your teeth whitening treatment are the most critical. Your teeth are still very porous from the whitening procedure, leaving them particularly susceptible to staining. For 24 hours, avoid any foods and drinks that will stain. Here are some tips to keep your teeth gleaming!

Avoid dark, colorful beverages such as coffee, tea, dark sodas, red wine, and colorful drinks.

  • Here's a tip- drinking liquids that may stain through a straw helps maintain your white color.

Some foods to avoid are red sauces, red foods, such as spaghetti sauce, soy sauces and dark sauces, dark chocolate, colorful berries, dark soups and stews, slushies, and colorful popsicles.

  • If you do eat any of these foods in the first couple of days after your  treatment- brush your teeth or rinse your mouth out with water immediately after eating. This will help rinse off any color that may stain.

Apart from teeth whitening foods and liquids to avoid, cigarette smoking should be avoided 24  hours after treatment ends. Moderate use of electronic cigarettes is OK.

Managing Teeth Whitening Sensitivity

We see sensitivity in less than 1% of our clients!

Although rare,  some people may experience sensitivity in teeth during the first 24 hours after the whitening treatment.  If you happen to experience sensitivity, remember that it is temporary, typically minor and gone within 24 hours.

Here are our top tips for dealing with sensitivity after teeth whitening-

  • Avoid very hot and cold foods/drinks as these cause your nerves to expand and shrink which may also cause higher sensitivity.
  • SensodyneTM toothpaste may also ease discomfort. Let some sit on your teeth for a few minutes and repeat as needed.
  • If you can't bear the discomfort, anti-inflammatories like Ibuprofen can help you manage, but you should always speak to your doctor prior to using.
  • If your sensitivity lasts longer than 48 hours after your treatment, talk to us about it! We can find a solution that works best for you. We can advise you on reducing the amount of time your treatments last or how often you should whiten, so you can continue to have white and bright teeth.
