Client After Care Instructions

Your teeth are very porous from the whitening procedure for 24 hours following, leaving them particularly susceptible to staining. Avoid any foods and drinks that may stain. Think of what ever would stain a white t-shirt would also stain your teeth.

  • Avoid colorful beverages such as coffee, tea, dark soda, red wine, colorful smoothies/shakes, and colored juices.
    • Drinking liquids that may stain through a straw will help maintain your white teeth!
  • Some foods to avoid: red sauces, colored dyed foods, colorful fruits/veggies, dark colored condiments, & chocolate.
    • Rinse your mouth out with water or brush your teeth immediately after if you do consume anything that may stain.

Cigarette smoking should also be avoided 24 hours after your whitening treament. Moderate use of electronic cigarettes OK.

Managing Teeth Whitening Sensitivity

We see sensitivity in less than 1% of our clients!

Although rare,  some people may experience sensitivity in teeth during the first 24 hours after the whitening treatment.  If you happen to experience sensitivity, remember that it is temporary, typically minor and gone within 24 hours.

Here are our top tips for dealing with sensitivity after teeth whitening-

  • Avoid very hot and cold foods/drinks as these cause your nerves to expand and shrink which may also cause higher sensitivity.
  • SensodyneTM toothpaste may also ease discomfort. Let some sit on your teeth for a few minutes and repeat as needed.
  • If you can't bear the discomfort, anti-inflammatories like Ibuprofen can help you manage, but you should always speak to your doctor prior to using.
  • If your sensitivity lasts longer than 48 hours after your treatment, talk to us about it! We can find a solution that works best for you. We can advise you on reducing the amount of time your treatments last or how often you should whiten, so you can continue to have white and bright teeth.
